Metal oxide varistor vs air gap arrester

September 15th, 2022 Energy, Industry 4.0

Protect your facility from Lighting/Surge strikes and save yourself thousands of dollars in repairing damaged property, fallen lines and cables, with a metal oxide varistor (MOV) or air gap arrester provided by Can-Technologies.

A metal oxide varistor (MOV) is a type of electronic component used to protect different kinds of devices from electrical faults and temporary over voltage (TOV), such as Lighting/Surge, power contact, and power induction.

MOVs are a common voltage clamping device, and Can-Technologies provides them at a wide range of voltages and currents. However, Air gas are limited to higher factor overvoltage.

Surge arresters are cylindrical objects, one to two feet long, consisting of a series inductor and a spark gap, or air gap.

Air gap Lighting/Surge arresters are typically installed near a critical entry point or appliance, including generators, Transformers and electrical panels. When Lighting/Surge strikes, the arrester activates and directs the incident energy to the earth, where it safely disperses, protecting equipment from potential damage.

Contact Can-Technologies to see if an arrester for transformers is right for your facility.
